Shiraz University off Medical Sciences (SUMS) is composed of 8 Vice Chancelleries, each of which is concerned with and responsible for certain issues at the University. These 8 vice Chancelleries include Vice Chancellery for Education, Research Affairs, Student Affairs, Global strategies and international affairs, Clinical Affairs, Health, Food & Drug, and Development & Resource Management Affairs. The following is a comprehensive list of Vice Chancelleries and Vice Chancellors at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in addition to the services they provide and their responsibilities:

The objectives of education office include training and educating students in different educational fields, recruiting competent academic staff and promoting their knowledge and skills through scientific methods in order to meet the needs for efficient human resources in the field of health.



  • Providing and recommending general principles of educational programs and supervising their implementation

  • Evaluating projects on development or modification in the educational programs

  • Supervising different affiliated units and the proper implementation of their activities

  • Establishing new fields of study

  • Supervising the education of scholarship students

  • Granting scholarships and recruitment of experts as academic staff

Vice Chancellery for Research Affairs, as one of the authorities in health promotion, has taken measures through designing appropriate strategic plans to promote the research affairs. One of the main strategies and measures taken in vice-chancellery for research is development of applied sciences to find solutions for everyday health needs based on "The Future Outlook of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Horizon of the Next Two Decades" document.

In recent years, researchers affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences have had an outstanding role in science production and expanding the borders of knowledge worldwide. At present, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences is ranked amongst the 1% of universities in the world and the third among Iranian universities of medical sciences regarding to the citations to its published scientific articles.

  • Hiring efficient research staff

  • Supporting the researchers by increasing research budgets

  • Promotion of young academic staff’s research abilities through holding educational workshops and establishing research consultation centers

  • Promoting the present research centers and establishing new centers based on the upcoming needs

  • Increasing the quantity of university scientific journals and also promoting their quality in order to index them in high rank indexing databases

  • Moreover, attempts have been made in the vice chancellery for research affairs to train young professional researchers in research centers by:

                      1-Persuading the researchers to conduct applied and productive research.

                      2- Providing them to register their innovations and inventions.
                      3- Providing them to expand the university’s relations with other domestic and international universities.

  • Recognizing and classifying the regional health problems as well as their technical and administrative problems

  • Recognizing and surveying the epidemiology of endemics and epidemics and preparing the required reports

  • Preparing and circulating the administrative instructions for the implementation of national health services programs 

  • Preparing appropriate health programs for health problems in accordance with local circumstances and combating endemics and epidemics.

  • Planning the expansion and modification of health units in accordance with change in population distribution and facilitating the society's access to health services

  • Participating in planning and implementing the community-oriented medical education in the units

  • Preparing and implementing applied research on regional health fields

  • Preparing and circulating the programs, instructions and approaches

  • Concerning sanitary tests (medical diagnosis of epidemics, water and sewage systems, occupational health)

  • Performing sanitary tests to control the associated labs and the lab diagnosis based on the national health and treatment instructions

  • Collecting and surveying the reports on the activities of associated health centers, announcing the results and preparing reports for authorities
