Pediatric gastroenterology developed as a sub-specialty of pediatrics and gastroenterology. It is concerned with treating the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas of children from infancy until age eighteen. The principle diseases it is concerned with are acute diarrhea, persistent vomiting, gastritis, and problems with the development of the gastric tract.
Subspecialty of pediatric gastroenterology is a branch of pediatrics, graduates of which will acquire knowledge and skills and serve the community in the fields of prevention of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatitis, diagnosis, treatment and care of patients suffering from liver and digestive problems and children nutrition. In addition, they can utilize their expertise to teach and produce knowledge in the relevant fields.
