Medicinal Chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry are disciplines at the intersection of chemistry, especially synthetic organic chemistry, and pharmacology and various other biological specialties, where they are involved with design, chemical synthesis and development for market of pharmaceutical agents, or bio-active molecules (drugs).
Medicinal Chemistry is an interdisciplinary science that combines basic sciences such as chemistry, physics, and biology, with the science of healing. Graduates of this field will be capable of the following through studying biochemical processes associated with enzymes, cell signaling mechanisms, receptors and ligands:
1. Design pharmaceutical molecules
2. Define and purify the molecular structures of chemical compositions.
3. Determine the relationship between chemical structures of compositions and their biological activity.
4. Extract natural compositions out of medicinal plants.
5. Analyze medicinal compositions by utilizing modern methods and technologies of machinery.
