Vice-Chancellery for Research and Technology

 

To lead and organize research, science, and technology activities at SUMS, Vice-Chancellery for Research and Technology, was established in 1985. Since then, the Vice-Chancellery has been bidding to execute SUMS research strategies, fulfil the University’s performance objectives, and transfer the knowledge derived from its research projects to health policymakers and planners. Therefore, it has a broad background in support and assistance throughout SUMS in research and technology-associated matters as well as the development of innovation and technology programs. Not only does the Vice-Chancellery amply supply the University with the most recent scientific and research resources and educational supplements but champions faculty and student research projects. Therefore, it consistently essays to revamp and equip SUMS research facilities and libraries in addition to supervising 63 research centers, 125 technology companies of which 23 are knowledge enterprises, 6 technology incubators, 1 innovation accelerator center, 9 research committees, and 28 libraries within SUMS 17 schools. The Vice-Chancellery also plans and manages SUMS graduate research programs including Ph.D. by research, Postdocs, Research Physician Program, and Research Assistant Program and is the incumbent who seconds publication activities of SUMS researchers and faculty members; 200 books wrote by SUMS faculty members had been published under its supervision and currently, it holds the ownership of 25 English journals and 2 Persian journals. The Vice-Chancellery’s endeavor to sustain SUMS international success in the realm of healthcare and health science and technology has resulted in the international registration of 5 inventions and the publication of 15620 articles in international journals. Up to 2021. According to the most recent announcement promulgated by Scopus, SUMS H-index is 95.

 

Its Key Task responsibilities are to:

  • Lay groundwork for producing technology and science-based products
  • Make policy decisions about research-related affairs
  • Monitor SUMS scientific products
  • Facilitate product registration process
  • Advance knowledge through research services
  • Develop nationally coordinated research and technology programs
  • Foster research and multimodal research collaboration
  • Administer mechanisms to enable nationwide and universal research and technology programs to be carried out within the framework of cross-departmental collaboration and extramural partnerships
  • Provide support for intellectual property
  • Train seasoned researchers and promote their abilities/skills
  • Commercialize the results of SUMS research works
  • Generate, provide, and distribute health-related knowledge at the international level
  • Effectively distribute and manage financial and non-financial resources allocated to SUMS research and technology programs
  • Encourage innovation and initiative technology activities in light of the importance of the knowledge economy
  • Advance technological innovation in support of SUMS
  • Pursue quality and quantity promotion in SUMS activities pertaining to health technology and technologists
  • Monitor the observance of ethics principles and in biomedical research and support the protection of human and animal rights in research
  • Oversee the proper implementation of national and international research regulations and international benchmarks
  • Monitor the implementation of biomedical research ethics,
  • Bring together faculty, students, and staff to address research topics
  • Further knowledge through research and practice
  • Prepare necessary plans to equip and expand physical and digital libraries
  • Administer and arrange all the affairs pertinent to research proposals including both thesis and non-thesis proposals
  • Prioritize SUMS research projects in cooperation with all beneficiaries
  • Conduct scientometric study of SUMS scientific publications
  • Offer consultation and technical services
  • Introduce the produced products to the Iranian and non-Iranian society and industry
